Spaces

We always build. We have built since we have been. What we build is a description of our time, our influences, our beliefs, available materials, advancement of knowledge, and our ever-varying daring. What we build not only shapes and gives boundaries and sets limits to that whichis contained within, it shapes and sets new limits to that which is kept without. Why do we keep something in, why do we keep something out?

Thoughts such as these wander across my mind as I search for the absolute summary of a structure, that place, crafted by the hands of men before me. I watch closely for that minuscule moment, that passing pinpoint in time and space that will tell all of what the structure I am peering at down the tunnel leading to my lens is, was and will be; the story of that structure.

It's something you just have time to see coming and passing. You use instinct, past experience, that seventh sense if you will, and suddenly there it is, a blink you saw but cannot prove and CLICK you instinctively operate the shutter at that precise moment and the story is written on film negative and forever others who have never been here, to this place, to this incredible structure, this record of who we were and what we felt at the time it was built, can read about it in its entirety in a single photograph. That "click", "Once upon a time..." and "The End." all in one swift wink allowing light into darkness.
