Elsewhere & Co. is an extension of the photographic practice of Eric Stein. Alongside his personal work, Stein maintains a professional practice specializing in destination and luxury lifestyle photography, a career that has taken him across most continents—from tropical regions to deserts and the Arctic. Built from years of working across landscapes, cities, and designed environments, the program reflects a sustained interest in how places are shaped by intention, use, and time. The program draws directly from Stein’s approach to photography—measured, observational, and concept-driven—while standing as its own field-based platform for study, discussion, and making work with purpose.

The workshops were developed in response to a simple observation: photographs often describe what a place looks like, but not why it exists or how it functions. Elsewhere & Co. was created to address that gap—encouraging photographers to move beyond surface description and toward images that carry a sense of structure, history, and consequence. Over time, this way of working sharpens how photographers see—training attention, judgment, and intent rather than reflex or repetition.

We don’t go to remarkable places to be impressed.
We go to understand what’s been shaping them all along.
